Los Campesinos - Philly Mar 29 2009

After the shocking news of an almost perfect line-up announced for Friday at All Points West (Vampire Weekend, Fleet Foxes, The National, Yeah Yeah Yeahs among others)..I will try to remain calm and summarize Los Campesinos' presentation at the Theatre of the Living Arts in Philly last night...

Opening act...Ponytail, a noise punk band from Baltimore, whose members literally assault their instruments with unique fervor and combine with the weird animalistic sounds emanating from their vocalist, Molly Siegel...yes, I know it sounds awkward, but trust me seeing them live is actually truly entertaining...

But, of course, the performance from Los Campesinos was completely on a different scale...In a few words it was a great show for a Sunday night...the seven kids from Cardiff, Wales kept the entire crowd much entertained either through their upbeat music or the charismatic personality of Gareth their lead singer who in several occasions spent some time admiring the "greatness" and "wickedness" of South Street, making sure the Philly crowd was very much connected to the band...

Everyone was dancing and although I should say that dancing is not one of the prime attributes of yesterday's crowd (me included), you could actually tell we were all having a great time...

Along with Gareth the other 6 Campesinos made their own contributions throughout the night...Aleksandra has a great voice, Tom and Neil were impeccable but fun at the same time. The latter decided to take a stage-dive at some point while continuing playing the guitar...Ollie who played topless the entire night was as always too energetic compared to Ellen who seemed to have everyone under control by controlling the tempo with her bass...and of course Harriet,...well Harriet...let's just say I enjoyed very much her violin skills...wink...wink..
