Fanfarlo – Rooms Filled With Light

This week, Fanfarlo had officially released their song «Deconstruction» as a single track, accompanied by what they refer as its sister piece with the subtle name «Reconstruction». The London-based band, who has had fun playing along with the clip describes it as “a 15-minute meditation on a pop song and what would happen if it just continued straight into a black hole, got torn into pieces and its component parts all re-emerged in a strange corner of the universe, some reconfigured into a bizarre new constellation and some completely transformed into a different beast altogether and then dipped in ink”…pretty imaginative description I would say.

Their new album, in which both «Deconstruction» and the previously released «Replicate» will be featured is planned to be released on February 28, 2012 in the US and a day before in the rest of the world. The band has decided to name this record ROOMS FILLED WITH LIGHT and has also attempted to describe it as “a nuclear submarine falling from space. We can hardly wait for impact”… I certainly add my name to the list of impatient people counting the days for this album.

This record has immense expectations behind following the quality we saw from RESERVOIR in 2009. However, as judged by the two songs released so far, ROOMS FILLED WITH LIGHT might depict a broader range in Fanfarlo’s music, advising us that the band is young, with a great potential to redirect their path and reinvent their approach several times. Certainly an exciting thought.

Fanfarlo will start a short tour in the US in about a week, touching Boston, NYC, Washington and Philadelphia before returning to Europe. In Philly, they will play Johnny Brenda’s on Nov 1, 2011, where I will be extremely happy to listen to them again for the third time.

Youth Lagoon - The Year of Hibernation

Youth Lagoon es el nombre del proyecto de Trevor Powers, músico de 22 años nacido en Boise, Idaho. The Year of Hibernation es el nombre de su disco debut, disco que hipnotiza al segundo o tercer track. La poca producción y la grabación prácticamente casera complementan el encanto, además de los lyrics nostálgicos que no suelen faltar en las buenas obras de indie pop.

Es de los últimos lanzamientos hasta el momento de Fat Possum Records, que este año se han encargado de editar verdaderas maravillas y varios de mis discos favoritos del 2011, como el debut homónimo de Yuck, el "Celebration, Florida" de The Felice Brothers, y el segundo y gran disco de los Smith Westerns, "Dye It Blonde". 

Dense el tiempo de disfrutar este disco, en verdad está increíble, pero más importante aún... si les gusta compren el disco! Les dejo el link de donde lo pueden adquirir en la versión que prefieran, además del video de "Montana" que es una verdadera joya, y el de "July", otro gran track ... enjoy!

Este viernes tuvimos la oportunidad de asistir al concierto ofrecido por The Horrors en el Salón Vive Cuervo de la Ciudad de México. Si bien el deficiente sonido del venue siempre ha sido polémico, en esta ocasión Noiselab se encargó de reforzarlo y la diferencia fue notable. Los Ingleses conquistaron de manera unánime a los presentes, sin ningún tipo de parafernalia ni las distracciones estratégicas de grupos mediocres con los que se suelen conquistar públicos musicalmente ignorantes. Sus únicas armas fueron una discreta iluminación que complementó de gran forma la estética obscura de la banda y un talento musical irrefutable.
Un concierto de menos de hora y media, y cuya corta duración sería probablemente lo único reprochable. 12 tracks, 7 de su maravilloso -Skying- que sin duda se consolida como uno de los mejores discos del año y deberá aparecer en la mayoría de las listas decentes, y 5 del enorme -Primary Colours-, que incluyeron obviamente a "Sea Within a Sea"... y si... escuchar live el mejor track del 2009 fue simplemente épico. 
Les dejo un par de vids y si quieren conocer el setlist completo de esa noche solo denle click a la foto del mismo en la parte superior. Si se los pueden topar en cualquier parte del planeta no se los pierdan, es un enorme concierto, y quienes no lo hayan hecho compren algo de su discografía, vale la pena apoyar el talento y nuestra música o la terminarán por desaparecer los Coldplay, Strokes, o peor aún, los Tiesto y mierdas así.
